Last night I was reminded of the final scene of one of my favorite movies, “The Candidate”. After Robert Redford’s character realizes he has won his election after a long and arduous campaign, he asks his campaign advisor, “What do we do now?”
For us in the 21st Ward the answer is clear: Now we begin the hard work of rebuilding our northside community.
For my friends and supporters outside my ward: Now we begin to organize across this city to make St. Louis a better place to live, work and play for ALL of our people.
I am so very appreciative of all the support from the people of the 21st Ward and my friends beyond its boundaries. Thank you all!

I’m willing to help out around strengthening Natural Bridge as a healthy business corridor.
Dear Mr French,
We are looking for great things to come from you. We hope you will make a big difference in the 21st ward. I have lived on Margaretta
for 50 years. The last few year I wanted to move from this address because of all the things that was going on in our block. We have a park in front of our house. The last few years I wished the park was back to being a dump. When we first moved to this address we didnt have people parking in front of your house, smoking drinking loud music and selling drugs. I know its a new time people don’t care about their homes or yours. We have ask Mrs King to closed the opening at 4646 Margaretta by the house, It’s a boarded up house and the drug dealers stand there. A family moved into the house and stayed almost a year. The family moved out because of the dealers standing in front of their home, the lady even ask if they would stop selling in front of her house it didn’t work.
Mrs King said the money was there to do the job………. When
We ask 2 years ago.
Please Help.
Thank you for stepping up to the plate. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Toni
Congratulations Toni… (ALDERMAN FRENCH, 21st Ward)
I knew you would win, not because we are family, but because you are just that, A WINNER! I never doubted your ability to get to this point and here’s why:
1) Your Heart is right
2) You LOVE the people
3) You have a vision as a young man to make things happen for
the betterment of “EVERYONE”
4) You are able to dream and when you “wake up”, you get busy
doing the “WORK” to bring those dreams to fruition
5) Last & certainly not Least…You are your Grandmothers vision
for her dreams (Committee Woman, Myrtle French salutes you!)
Thank you for all you do and plan to do and don’t hesitate to call
on me for whatever I can do to help you.

Congratulations Mr. French.
Now that we have gotten rid of the ineffective Alderwoman I hope things will start to get better in the 21st Ward. I have lived in the 4100 of Margaretta for 38 years. The neighbors in the immediate area are the kind that make a neighborhood strong and good. We care about and look out for each other and our homes. I love my house and have put a lot of work in it through the years but this area has gone through a lot of changes in the past few years, not for the good, and it is making living here more difficult by the day. Getting in and out of this area is a complete embarassment no matter which way you come or go to get to highway 70, 40, 55, 64, downtown, east west, north or south. Fair, Natural Bridge, Grand and especially from Newstead going east on Margaretta to Harris looks like a war zone. Many people have asked how can you stand to live in this area? I am beginning to wonder the same thing. Some of the other things that make living in this area unbearable are seeing people throw trash on the street and sidewalks (not to mention our newly paved alleyways); drivers speeding down the street with boom boxes blaring; too much commercial activity involving cars and people hanging around on Fair and Natural Bridge. This includes 3 or 4 car washes and a liquor store. I cannot count the near accidents I have had trying to drive through that mess. I know you grew up near O’Fallon Park and had the Sunday cruisers problem. Well now they are cruising Fairgrounds Park and the noise and traffic is unbearable. This is EVERY Sunday all summer long. The church cannot have Sunday afternoon or evening services and the rest of us cannot come or go easily nor can our company. My friends and family refuse to visit me on Sundays. The trash the cruisers leave on our streets and in the park is ridiculous making it hazardous to take a walk on Monday morning. I realize there are some people who don’t know how to or don’t care about taking care of their property and some who don’t care about or respect their neighbors property but I find it strange that some of these same people shop in the county and and they don’t trash those areas. Probably because there are laws against littering and loitering. After all this rambling, my biggest question is why are laws that are enforced in other areas of the city and county not enforced in North St. Louis? And last but not least, when is the tearing down of dilapidated buildings and new construction going to start in the 21st Ward and will the new construction be comparable to those being built in the Ville? I am through rambling now…it’s late and I am tired. I am frustrated and just wanted to voice my concerns.
congratulations
after reading one of your articles, i see where she gets her bullying from. i worked at a daycare in your ward. we worked our hearts out. she came along, and since we were not to bow down to her, she got us all fired. thanks for that move. now i make 4 times my old salary. mr french keep the children and young adults in mind while on your journey to excellence. even though this sounds personal, it is about who possesses the quality of fairness and compassion. just what if i was fragile and that was the only job i felt i could secure. you made quite a few parents homeless ms king. it is not right when it is done the way you did it. i just e-mailed my alderman about this homelessness breakout that is seemingly about to happen. i am noticing many inspectors out condemning buildings where children and single parents live. i understand safety first. what bothers me is the landlords know ahead of time that city is “concerned”. so, why when a person is set out because a building is unfit, why do tenants hace to go after the landlord in court. landlords should go straight to jail, this is endangerment and negligence. parents, teachers, rapists, etc. go to jail for neglect and abuse. knowingly causing homelessness should be abuse. really, look into this matter. i beg you.
