3rd Show in O’Fallon Park Jazz Series

Tonight (Wednesday, August 26) marks the third concert in the four-week O’Fallon Park Jazz Concert Series. Tonight’s concert features St. Louis legend, saxophonist Willie Akins. It begins at 6:30 PM and ends around 8:30 PM. This is the first year of what will be an annual summer event created by new 21st Ward Alderman Antonio French in partnership with The Sheldon Concert Hall.

willie_akins_fsThe Sheldon has lined up some of St. Louis’ top performers for the event: The past two weeks saw performances by the Bosman Twins (who grew up in the 21st Ward) and the Jeff Anderson Quartet. This week the Willie Akins Group takes the stage; and the much-anticipated final week will feature world-renowned singer Denise Thimes.
Alderman French says, “This event is about families reclaiming this wonderful park. It’s great to see so many people enjoying the park. Events like this create the sense of community that many of us thought was lost. We are seeing that it is not.”

French thanked the Sheldon Concert Hall, the participating artists, Mayor Francis Slay, Aldermanic President Lewis Reed, Attorney General Chris Koster, former State Senator Jeff Smith, St. Louis Supermarket, State Rep. Jamilah Nasheed, and State Rep. Chris Carter for their help in making this event possible.
