At a public hearing of the Housing Committee in City Hall Thursday, Alderman Antonio French questioned controversial developer Paul McKee on his secret land purchases of the past five years and whether he was behind any of the companies that are currently buying large areas of north St. Louis.
In response to French’s questions, McKee testified before the aldermanic committee that he is not behind the current purchasing and will not be buying properties outside of the current 1,500-acre area approved by the committee this week. That area does not include any portion of the 21st Ward.
Alderman Terry Kennedy, whose ward also is not included in the redevelopment area and who was the lone vote on the committee against McKee’s proposal, stated very eloquently why many on the northside do not trust McKee or his “vision” for north St. Louis.
