Community Responds to Multiple Shootings on Lee Ave

Alderman French and the 21st Ward Coalition of Religious Leaders Host Press Conference and Prayer Vigil on Lee Avenue

(ST. LOUIS) – Tuesday morning Darlene Nobel, a 51 year-old mother of five, was walking down her street to the corner store as she did everyday when a 19 year-old kid walked up to her and the two men she was standing next to and opened fire. Ms. Nobel was struck five times and died. A separate shooting occurred on the same block later yesterday afternoon. All told, the neighbors who live on Lee Avenue experienced three shootings and two murders within 72 hours.

A prayer vigil was held Wednesday afternoon at the site of Ms. Nobel’s murder, near the intersection of Lee and Turner. Alderman French was joined by Chief Isom, Mayor Slay, State Representative Nasheed, and  pastors from the 21st Ward Coalition of Religious Leaders in front of the Yeatman II Market at 4300 Lee Avenue.
