Alderman French, Rebuilding Together, and Boeing, Partner to Make a Massive Impact on the 4000-4100 Blocks of North Taylor
(ST. LOUIS) – On Saturday, June 26th, the homeowners of the 4000 and 4100 blocks of N Taylor in north St. Louis will receive complete home makeovers thanks to a unique partnership between 21st Ward Alderman Antonio French and the nonprofit Rebuilding Together-St. Louis. This is the second of several “blitz days” to be conducted by Rebuilding Together in order to help service a projected total 66 homes in the 21st Ward this year. In addition to receiving much-needed home repairs, these blocks will also receive indispensable city services such as alley and sidewalk repair, tree-trimming, street light replacement and assistance in organizing and maintaining active block units as part of Alderman French’s Block-by-Block Initiative.
The first blitz, conducted on May 1st was tremendously successful in revitalizing the 4400 block of Penrose. This time, Rebuilding Together will ambitiously tackle two blocks simultaneously, working on a total of fifteen homes. On Saturday morning, some 300 volunteers, many from the Boeing Corporation, will converge on the 4000 and 4100 blocks of N Taylor, performing everything from emergency plumbing and roof repairs to minor tasks like painting and landscaping. In the weeks leading up to Saturday, Rebuilding Together volunteers have already begun minor repairs in order to prepare homes for the blitz day efforts.
“Rebuilding Together allows us to take bold strides towards improving our neighborhoods that we could not otherwise accomplish,” Alderman French said. “The old way of addressing home repairs in the City only allowed us to accommodate about six homeowners a year. With a waiting list of 450 people, it would have been impossible to make real progress within a reasonable time frame. This partnership has allowed us to stretch each dollar we have as far as it can possibly go while bringing real change to our community.”
“Rebuilding Together is grateful for the financial commitment of Alderman French and the 21st Ward,” said Dave Ervin, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together. “As we strive to deliver safe housing solutions to hundreds of low income homeowners throughout St. Louis, we rely on individuals like Alderman French to share that commitment to our neighborhoods and its residents. We are thrilled with the success of our efforts thus far and eager to see the positive changes that these repairs will bring to these blocks and the 21st Ward as a whole.”
