7 Homes Receive Repairs Today in North St. Louis
(ST. LOUIS)–Volunteers started arriving early this morning on the 4400 block of Clarence in north St. Louis. They are repairing 7 homes on the block today for homeowners in dire need of assistance.
Today’s Rebuilding Day is the result of a one-of-a-kind partnership between 21st Ward Alderman Antonio French, Rebuilding Together-St. Louis, and the Boeing Corporation. To date, 25 homes in three blocks have already been transformed in May and June as part of Alderman French’s “Block-by-Block” initiative.
Today’s event is unique as volunteers from Boeing are participating in their company’s first-ever Global Day of Service, an essential component of their Employee Volunteer Program. 230 Boeing volunteers, including employees, family, and friends are out on Clarence doing everything from painting and flooring, to plumbing and landscaping. In addition, students from the Construction Careers Center have joined the cause by forming a team to repair one of the homes.
Through selective home rehabilitation and clean-up efforts, Alderman French hopes to jump-start long-term improvements to the quality of life for homeowners in the 21st Ward. There are a total of 66 homes slated for rehabilitation by the end of the year, a number which is 10x the amount that could have been helped using City resources alone.
“This partnership has allowed us to stretch each dollar we have as far as it can possibly go while bringing real change to our community,” said Alderman French.
