Pastors, community leaders, neighbors gather to hold candlelight vigil for 16-yr-old killed Saturday on 4300 Lee
(ST. LOUIS)—Tomorrow night, residents will gather on the 4300 block of Lee to hold a candlelight vigil for 16-year-old, Dawon Gipson, who was killed early Saturday morning in a gang-related shooting.
Gipson died on almost the exact spot as Darlene Nobel, a 51-year-old mother, who was killed just 2 months ago on the same block. Neighbors and friends have erected Dawon’s memorial across the street from the place where a memorial for Ms. Nobel still stands. This is where pastors and community members will gather tomorrow night to hold a vigil in his memory.
“This is not a solution to the violence we are experiencing in our neighborhoods,” said Alderman Antonio French (D-21), “but it is an important expression of grief, anger, and solidarity for a block that has lost more than one of their own due to violence this summer.”
The vigil for Dawon Gipson will be held at 7:30PM Thursday night on the 4300 block of Lee, near the intersection of Lee & Clarence.
