Eighteen- and nineteen-year-olds from the Catholic Heart Work Camp tackled home repairs Tuesday for two 21st Ward homeowners through the Good Neighbors Program offered by the ACTS Partnership.
The dozen teens, who traveled from throughout the Midwest for a week of community service and faith sharing in St. Louis, are part of a larger group of 425 young adults working on 55 projects throughout the city.
This is the third summer in St. Louis for Kelly Urich, a site leader from Minnesota. She says the work camp is a way for participants to give something back.
At 4636 Kossuth, campers applied a fresh coat of exterior paint and worked on gutter repairs.
At 4515 Harris, campers landscaped the backyard, tuckpointed the chimney, and cleared the basement for homeowner Brenda Nelson.
Nelson plans to donate many items from her basement to St. Elizabeth’s Church.
“This is my way of giving back also,” she said.
