Alderman Antonio French traveled to Jefferson City Monday to testify before the House Committee on Urban Affairs. French spoke in support of a bill sponsored by State Rep. Jamilah Nasheed which will finally return control of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department back to the people of the City of St. Louis. The state has controlled the department since the Civil War.
Alderman French sent out the call and 21st Ward residents responded. When the Ways & Means Committee of the Board of Aldermen convened for a rare evening meeting, the public showed up to let their voices be heard about the proposed $45,000,000 in budget cuts.
Alderman Antonio French believes it is wrong to balance the city’s budget on the backs of the city’s most vulnerable citizens and will continue to fight cuts to city services before each and every city department is thoroughly examined for waste, inefficiency, and misappropriations.
Alderman French was on Channel 2 News recently discussing why he feels the stretch of Interstate 70 bearing the name of disgraced Cardinals hitter Mark McGwire should be renamed.
