A Look Inside the SLMPD Real Time Crime Center

In May of 2015, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s (SLMPD) Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) was unveiled at Police Headquarters located at 1915 Olive. The RTCC is manned with Commissioned Police Officers 24-hours a day and 365 days a year.

The RTCC took over the functions of the SLMPD Command Post, quickly becoming the technology and information center for the SLMPD.

The Detectives assigned to the RTCC gather and disseminate information throughout the City of St. Louis. The RTCC is focused on monitoring, deterring and evaluating criminal activity in real-time through the use of surveillance cameras, fixed and mobile license plate recognition (LPR) systems, crime analysis and other law enforcement software and databases. The RTCC provides investigative support to the first responders on scenes, as well as to the Detectives handling the follow-up investigations. The RTCC is focused on improving SLMPD’s situational awareness with the #1 goal to increase the safety of all SLMPD Police Officers.

Phase 1 of the RTCC project included the integration of surveillance camera technology, license plates recognition (LPR) technology, Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) and ShotSpotter. The RTCC is focused on monitoring, deterring and evaluating criminal activity in real-time with the help of the advanced technology in the center. The SLMPD deploys highly visible cameras that are easily detectable in an effort to deter criminal activity.

This state of the art center provides the SLMPD technologically advanced tools to help address crime and to make our community safer for our citizens and visitors. Since its inception, the RTCC has proven itself as a valuable and necessary resource by continually providing information to Officers on the street in a way that is both clear and actionable.

The SLMPD’s Real Time Crime Center was the recipient of the International Association of Law Enforcement Planners (IALEP) 2015 Phil E. Keith Project of the Year Award.

Chief’s Media Briefing on Homicide at 1122 Union on 8/23/19

A summary of the incident is provided below:

Location: 1122 Union (Harold’s Chop Suey)
Dates/Times: 8/23/19 @ 2004
Victim #1: Jurnee Thompson, 8-year old Black Female, of the 6900 Block of Alberici
Victim #2: 16-year old Black Male
Victim #3: 16-year old Black Male
Victim #4: 64-year old Black Female
Suspect(s): Unknown
Following several football games at Soldan High School, numerous fights broke out as the crowds were exiting. At approximately 7:17 p.m., an “Officer in Need of Aid” call was dispatched, and officers responded from numerous Districts to assist. Shortly after 8:00 p.m., and while officers were still on scene dispersing the crowds; several gunshots were heard just north of Soldan High School. The victims were located in the parking lot of the above business, all suffering from gunshot wounds. EMS transported all the victims to a hospital where Victim #1 was later pronounced deceased. Victim #2 and #3 were listed in serious/stable condition, and Victim #4 was listed a stable. The Homicide Division responded and is handling the ongoing investigation. 7/11/19: Chief Hayden Briefs Media on Officer Involved Shooting in the 4100 Block of Shreve

Chief Hayden briefs the media on an Officer Involved Shooting in the 4100 block of Shreve. The suspect sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital where he was listed as stable. His firearm was recovered. No officers were injured.

The Force Investigation Unit is handling the ongoing investigation.

Our Homicide Detectives need help locating/identifying this vehicle which was used in the fatal shooting of Allen Shelton, a 27-year old male.

Officers received a call for “Shots Fired” at Madison and N. Florissant relative to unknown suspect(s) firing shots into a vehicle. The victim drove to the 1900 block of St. Louis Ave. where officers located him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. EMS pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
